"Autohaus" Volkswagen
Excursion to Wolfsburg Thanks to the network of road and rail communications around Hanover, the birthplace of the legendary VW "Beetle" is only a short journey away. Wolfsburg - Volkswagen’s "Autostadt" - is opening up as a "fringe event" of EXPO 2000. The motor metropolis offers an exciting mix of mobility and brand presentation. In the KonzernForum, a 200 metre long building with approx. 18-metre high glass swing doors, is found an unusual piece of architecture. The Berlin architect Uwe Welp (SWW Architekten Brunswick - Berlin) designed for the KinderWelt section an engine block of steel and glass with a base area of 10 x 6 m and a height of 12 metres. The exhaust elbow is in the form of a children’s slide. Both Hanover and Wolfsburg are worth a trip - with excitement and innovative ideas automatically included. |
