Hotel Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas

They’re built on low bid, industrial specs, while Las Vegas, and Mandalay Bay in particular, has a luxury product”, explains the President of the Mandalay Bay Resort Group. In the exhibition and congress business, this city in the desert has, in the meantime, climbed to the number one spot in the USA.

The Mandalay Bay Convention Center designed by Klai Juba Architects and completed at a cost of 225 million dollars, has everything it takes to attract major events away from other cities and venues. In front of the 167,000 square metre, three-storey building, extends a prize-winning lagoon landscape reminiscent of a South Sea Island scene. Business, fun and comfort as a package is what it is all about. The ambience of the golden-glazed hotel and casino complex conjures up an exotic island paradise. This includes a submarine world of adventure with 13 types of shark, a snorkel reef and an all-encompassing wellness offering. The success of the strategy adopted has provided a major incentive for further expansion. Since completion of the Convention Center, a second hotel tower has also now been built on the basis of plans provided by Klai Juba, increasing the total capacity of the complex to 4,825 rooms and suites.

In future, 40% of the guests staying in the Mandalay Bay Hotel are expected to be exhibition and congress delegates or visitors. Consequently, the Congress Center exhibits an appropriately ambitious design. Having supplied a total of 57 modular partition systems, Modernfold has satisfied the prerequisites for maximum flexibility in space utilisation. Indeed, up to 75 meetings could be held simultaneously within the complex. With 18,000 square metres of mobile wall area, this DORMA subsidiary has also set a US record. The other equipment included is similarly exemplary in terms of its design and specifications: wireless LAN and firstclass audio, video, lighting and air-conditioning systems guarantee perfection in terms of both the working and presentation conditions. It appears that, for Las Vegas, only superlatives will do!
