Before its new city hall was built, Greer’s municipal departments were spread across 14 separate buildings. The last building acquired had been a post office built in the Great Depression of the 1930s. Today city employees work together in a $6.4 million, 34,500 sq ft building that consolidates city functions, provides state-of-the-art audio/visual technology, and offers generous space for public gatherings. The public space includes the council chamber, a catering kitchen, three halls, expandable rooms for gatherings, and spacious hallways open to a veranda. Complementing the city hall is a new 37,000 sq ft courthouse nearby that also houses the police force. The literally outstanding new city hall—with its prominent clock tower and surrounding 12-acre park—properly reflects Greer’s status as one of South Carolina’s fastest growing communities.
Prominent Features
The town’s successful drive to modernize its civic space has prepared Greer to meet expanding public service needs for 50 years to come. For both internal and external doorways throughout the new facilities, project specifiers selected DORMA Architectural Hardware: 8600 Series Door Closers, 9000 Series Heavy-Duty Exit Devices, and ML9000 Series Mortise Locksets.
