Manpower Inc.—one of the world’s largest staffing agencies—has built its international headquarters on 2.7 acres of riverfront property
in downtown Milwaukee. The new 280,000 sq ft, $78 million facility takes the place of a defunct power plant, brewery, and rail yard. Beginning with the re-use of urban land, Manpower was committed to building green, which influenced every step of design and construction. The U.S. Green Building Council awarded LEED Gold certification in April 2009. Among the LEED goals met were extensive use of daylight in office spaces, an under-floor air distribution system to improve indoor air quality and energy efficiency, and locally manufactured materials, with about 20 percent of materials, by cost, manufactured within a 500-mile radius.
Prominent Features
Within the context of building green, creating an international feel, and requiring economical but quality products, specifiers selected DORMA Architectural Hardware for doorways throughout the facility. DORMA’s versatile products combine durability, strength, reliability, and security with modern styling, and a wide choice of architectural finishes. The DORMA products chosen for the project were a perfect match for Manpower’s functional and aesthetic goals: 8900 Series Heavy-Duty Door Closers, 9000 Series Heavy-Duty Exit Devices, LM Series Pivots, BTS80 Concealed Door Closers, CL800 Cylindrical Locksets, and D800 Heavy-Duty Dead Bolts.
