MD Anderson Cancer Center

Health Care - The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center is one of the world's most respected centers devoted exclusively to cancer patient care, research, education, and prevention.

The Cancer Prevention Building features 20 foot high operable partitions, specially manufactured in two-piece panel sections in order to access the building and allow installation in the 8th floor meeting area. The large partitions intersect in various configurations to increase flexibility. The panels fold into pockets located througghout the room when not in use.

TRW Modernfold installed 1/4-inch thick acoustical panel material over the steel faced partitions to provide the acoustical integrity desired. The panel were then finished with layered fabric to match the bands of color on the perimeter walls of the room. A safety system utilizing infrared rays was installed in this application as well, stopping the partitions from operating when a person or object moves into its path.
